Mechanical Engineering Industry is Changing: This was the 13th Mechanical Engineering Summit in Berlin

More than 700 participants from the mechanical engineering industry, around 80 speakers and top politicians such as German Chancellor Olaf Scholz or US Ambassador Dr. Amy Gutmann attended this year’s Mechanical Engineering Summit in Berlin. For two days, they discussed numerous questions and problems that are currently affecting the industry and politics. The 13th edition of the leading industry event turned out to be a record summit that focused on the changes in Germany’s most important industry.

Globalization is a necessity for prosperity and diversity

Mechanical engineering in the transformation process, digitalization, and the role of Europe in the world – these were the main topics of this year’s Mechanical Engineering Summit on October 11th and 12th in Berlin. And they clearly show that the industry is at the crossroads. After ten years of Industry 4.0, many German companies are still not using their technological expertise. Instead of mass progress, there are only a few engineering companies who actually use the existing potential.

This is one reason why Chancellor Olaf Scholz sees decoupling from individual countries as critical, even with regard to interrupted supply chains caused by war and the pandemic. In his speech, he instead praises globalization because it enables prosperity in Germany and the world.

For Scholz, trade with China and developing countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America should actually be increased even further in order to achieve economic diversification.

With this political backing, many companies in Germany and around the world can breathe a sigh of relief. Instead of isolating itself, Germany remains a global player and thus an important trading partner for companies from abroad. Even more, German engineers are encouraged to intensify relationships with foreign partners.

German interest in exchange with foreign companies rises

The fact that this is the way to go was not only shown by the range of topics at this year’s summit. The willingness to cooperate with international companies is also increasing within the industry. “We were able to talk to many German engineering businesses who were interested in our CAD solutions”, says ZWSOFT, which attended the summit for the first time. The internationally active CAD expert with more than 1,800 employees around the world was able to score particularly well with its license model.

Especially with regard to cost reductions and increases in efficiency, many companies prefer a perpetual license, as offered by ZWSOFT, to a subscription-based model. The seamless compatibility between the 2D CAD platform ZWCAD and AutoCADÔ also sparked a lot of interest.

The positive feedback at the Summit is not only a great success for ZWSOFT, but also an indicator for future development on the German market.
