The Art of Wellness

In a world that speeds on, turning inward is often the secret to stretching time and renewing oneself. But the path to such individual and collective wellness looks different for everyone, and hotels around the world are taking this knowledge to heart. Be it on the shores of crystal-clear waters or in a sublime subterranean level of a historic mansion, these six member hotels center the art of wellness with holistic approaches to wellbeing.

THE MALDIVES
Offering a fresh haven for travelers who seek authentic experiences in a pocket of seclusion, Patina Maldives, Fari Islands places recentering and reconnecting to oneself and surroundings at the heart of each stay. Located in the North Malé Atoll, the resort follows a wellbeing philosophy called “Flow,” with a soulful spa where treatment suites include couple’s hammam beds and a room dedicated to the practice of Watsu. A floatation zone soothes mind and body while saunas and cold showers enable the vascular and cognitive benefits of contrast hydrotherapy. For guests in search of movement, high- and low-impact workout classes are also hosted alongside aqua cycling, yoga, and paddleboarding on the calm turquoise waters. From October 26–29, the resort is also converging the fields of fashion, art, and healing for the “Cosmopolitan Ocean” festival, which aims to to reframe the ocean as a nexus of crosscultural connections.

GREECE
Set in a landscape awash with vegetation, Noūs Santorini feels like a retreat on its own island of splendor. Dedicated to Ef Zin, the Greek principle of wellbeing, the spa radiates a holistic approach to self-care. An outdoor yoga space and a vitamin bar complement a salon and spa, where five treatment rooms are the center of an inspiring mind-and-body experience. Bespoke treatments harness the power of nature, with some primary ingredients including milk proteins and fruit extracts, while expert therapists also use superior natural products by Greek brand Korres to take guests on personalized journeys. Moreover, the spa is equipped with an architecturally striking indoor/outdoor pool, steam bath, sauna, and cold tank, and guests will also discover a Nerium grove nearby, dubbed “The Oasis.” Here, visitors sense a move away from mass and speed, and toward space, connections, and slowness.

LITHUANIA
Housed in the subterranean level of a historic mansion dating back to the 15th century, Spa Pacai at Vilnius’s Hotel Pacai awaits guests through a subtle entrance within a serene courtyard. Descending the stairs marks the beginning of a journey into a space of privacy, calmness, and luxury, where Lithuanian herbs and high-tech skincare are used to pamper visitors. Recognized as Lithuania’s best hotel spa by the World Spa Awards, it is the first in Vilnius to offer Biologique Recherche treatments and products, with practitioners who think holistically and value the mind-body connection. Beyond indulgent treatments, which can be carried out in double or single rooms, additional amenities include a sauna and a stunning black-mosaic dry-air hammam.

GERMANY
With an awe-inspiring lakeside setting, the spa at Seezeitlodge Hotel & Spa in Gonnesweiler, Germany, unfolds across an expansive 5,000 square meters. An outdoor Celtic sauna village, arranged according to documented earth energies, features a meditation sauna, Celtic sauna, herbal sauna, ritual space, and relaxation yurt, while indoor and outdoor infinity pools, a yoga area, and floating pool await discovery elsewhere. Unique to the property is the Nature Bathing Pond, with native water plants, waterspouts, and natural regeneration areas that ensure clean, clear water without any chemicals. Guests can further reset with massage treatments, sound rituals, beauty offerings, and more, always connecting to oneself and nature with unending views of Bostal Lake.

SWITZERLAND
Hidden in the heart of the rough and wild Swiss Alps lies a high-style retreat for adult indulgence: The Hide Hotel Flims. Here, on the second floor, visitors will discover a Finnish panorama sauna with direct mountain views, a steam room, a milder sauna, rain showers, and a relaxation room—as well as a private spa area for two people. Local and natural materials define the majority of treatments, some of which incorporate herbs foraged from the mountains, CBD oil, honey, or rose extract. Yoga facilities are also found onsite, and with the hotel’s special “Spa Around” offer, guests can explore the wellbeing facilities at eight partner hotels in Flims, totaling more than 10,000 square meters of pure relaxation and restoration within a magnificent mountain setting.

UNITED STATES
Less than 15 blocks away from the beach in southern California is Santa Monica Proper Hotel, with a flagship 3,000-square-foot Proper x Surya Spa. In collaboration with Martha Soffer, an internationally acclaimed Ayurvedic doctor, chef, and herbalist, the spa offers therapeutic massages, steam and oil treatments, cooking,  meditation, personalized Dosha Yoga consultations, and cleansing Panchakarma programs. Curated wellness retreats lead guests on healing journeys for the mind, body, and soul through yoga, sound breath ceremonies, fitness classes, tarot readings, nourishment talks, and journaling sessions. Plus, with the only rooftop pool deck on LA’s westside, guests here enjoy a singular vantage point for sunsets over the Pacific.
