DEBATIN receives the 2024 WorldStar Award

Anton Debatin GmbH, based in Bruchsal, Germany, recently won the 2024 WorldStar Award for its DEBAMED® Speci-Sorb, an innovative packaging developed specially for laboratories. This year, the WPO (World Packaging Organisation) nominated 214 winners in its prestigious global competition. Only 21 of these came from Germany. In total, there were 435 packaging entries from 41 countries.

The jury, consisting of 45 international experts, praised DEBAMED® Speci-Sorb as being the most effective packaging to date for transporting medical samples without leakage and in compliance with national laws and regulations. A patent is currently pending for the innovative packaging, in which the legally required absorbent liner is integrated into the ADR-compliant secondary packaging during DEBATIN’s production process. Before now, absorbent liners have always been added manually to the secondary packaging – either by the manufacturer, or by staff in the lab (who most certainly have more meaningful things to do with their time than assemble packaging for transportation!).

The new product from Anton Debatin GmbH also helps to reduce the risk that alternative, non ADR-compliant solutions will be used. You can read more about why this is so important in our highly popular white paper about packaging instruction P650 and the ADR requirements for “exempt human specimens” and “exempt animal specimens”, available at https://go.debatin.de/DEBATIN_DEBAMED_P650_Whitepaper_request

DEBAMED® Speci-Sorb has many benefits. Besides streamlining processes for our customers in healthcare industries, it also makes DEBATIN’s own production processes more efficient. In addition, it increases hygiene and safety. Last but not least, the innovative product takes sustainability concerns into account – and has been certified accordingly by the interzero Recycling Alliance as “Made for Recycling”. The assessment criteria for this certification were developed by bifa Umweltinstitut GmbH, and the tests were conducted by the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging. “We’re truly proud to win this prestigious award,” summarises DEBATIN’s CEO Thomas Rose. “When developing this product innovation, we were spurred on by a desire to provide our customers with genuine solutions that tick all the right boxes when it comes to sustainability and automation.”
