Most modern automated parking system in the U.S. starts operation in residential tower in Philadelphia

The most advanced automated parking system in the U.S. is now operating at “210 South 12th,” a 31-story residential tower located in Philadelphia’s Center City neighborhood. Developed by Midwood Investment & Development and designed by award-winning firm RSHP, formerly known as Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, founded by Pritzker Prize winner Richard Rogers and his partners in collaboration with Midwood Design Studio and Perkins Eastman 210 South 12th brings a new level of residential luxury to Philadelphia. The automated parking system by Lödige Industries which spans three levels, includes 100% EV charging capabilities, the first of its kind in the U.S.

Access to the sophisticated parking system is provided via two cabins. Users identify themselves with RFID-fobs and simply drive into the cabin on a pallet. The rest is fully automatic. First, the safety equipment scans the cabin to ensure nothing was accidentally left behind and to measure the size, and particularly the height of the car. This allows the RESPACE algorithm to find the most efficient parking position for each car. Then, a hoist transports the vehicle downwards. Every level has a grid of parking pallets, each equipped with its own conveyors and motor to enable the simultaneous movement of multiple pallets for more speed and efficiency. As with a sliding puzzle, the pallet is moved into a free position.

“210 South 12th offers the highest level of residential amenities, and we are excited to introduce this state-of-the-art parking solution for our residents. In a dense urban environment like Philadelphia, access to high-tech and secure parking is an incredible benefit. Working with the Lödige team, we are able to provide our residents with the most seamless and high-tech parking amenity in the city; at Midwood, we are dedicated to delivering forward-thinking solutions that redefine luxury living, and this advanced parking system is a prime example of that vision in action," says Jeff Dvorett, President of Midwood Investment & Development.

“There is a high demand for parking facilities in many urban areas across the U.S., as is the case here. Automated parking systems are ideal when it comes to making efficient use of limited space. They also improve the speed and convenience of the parking process as well as the security for the parked vehicles and drivers alike. We would like to thank Midwood for allowing us to demonstrate this once again at this exceptional building,” explains Jonathan Hardy, Managing Director North America, at Lödige Industries.

Lödige Industries has more than three decades of experience and has already installed more than 85 automated parking systems worldwide. Innovative parking technologies enable efficient, safe and quick ways of parking vehicles – whether it’s for just a few or up to 1,000 and more cars.
