TenneT relies on Arvato Systems for market communications

Arvato Systems has been awarded a contract by transmission system operator TenneT TSO GmbH, following a Europe-wide tender, to install a new message broker for AS4-based market communication. The challenging project will start in May 2025 and is scheduled for completion a little over a year later. With the new MaKo solution, TenneT aims to revamp integration into existing backend systems and connect the archive system, which was also put out to tender. The contract has a term of four years with an option to extend twice for three years.

Arvato Systems has been working in partnership with TenneT as an IT infrastructure service provider for around 15 years. With AS4-based market communication, another key area of responsibility has now been added. “The main challenge is to make the change so smooth that the market doesn’t notice anything,” says Bastian Schwartz, Product Manager for Market Communication Services at Arvato Systems. “The transfer of measurement values, schedules, and invoices must function seamlessly and without interruption at TenneT.” Most of the necessary installation work is being carried out remotely.

Three factors played a key role in the decision to choose Arvato Systems. First, the IT service provider is one of the leading providers in the market with its AS4 solution. Second, Arvato Systems scored highly with its proven, in-depth expertise in system integration, process management, and monitoring. This is precisely where TenneT saw the greatest need for operational action. And third, the existing partnership has created a solid foundation of trust.

“We are delighted to have won this contract and look forward to the exciting work that now lies ahead,” says Bastian Schwartz. The challenge posed by the project is also evident from the fact that eight different parties will be present at the kick-off. The “open-heart surgery” is also taking place at a company that is central to Germany’s power supply. With a network of more than 13,500 kilometers of high-voltage lines, TenneT is Germany’s largest transmission system operator.
