Modernization and expansion of eight-strand Concast billet caster at Jindal Shadeed Iron & Steel LLC in Oman
- New formats and grades for special bar quality (SBQ) steels to be introduced to meet growing construction industry demand
- Capable of producing new sections (180 SQ and 200 SQ)
- Modernization completion date planned for the end of 2025
Jindal Shadeed Iron & Steel LLC, a manufacturer of reinforcing steel grades, is strategically upgrading its eight-strand Concast continuous caster at its facility in Sohar Port, Sultanate of Oman, to meet increasing demand from construction industry customers. This modernization strengthens the long-standing relationship between Jindal Shadeed and SMS. By leveraging SMS expertise, Jindal Shadeed will be able to enhance its production capabilities, expand its product portfolio, and meet the growing demand for SBQ products across the global market.
The upgrade focuses on enabling Jindal Shadeed to produce new sections (180 SQ and 200 SQ) that cater to the construction industry.
The scope of supply includes section-related mechanical components, CONSTIR-MEMS stirrer, and CONFLOW stopper control boxes, integrated with advanced automation systems. These proven technological solutions are designed to equip Jindal Shadeed with the process know-how and technical expertise needed to meet stringent market demands for superior quality and dimensional accuracy.
The CONSTIR Mold Stirrer is an electromagnetic stirring system that improves the homogeneity of the molten steel during solidification, thereby reducing any defects. This results in fewer rejections and higher yield. The CONFLOW Stopper Control enables precise control of the steel flow into the mold, ensuring consistent casting speeds and reducing variations in billet dimensions. This enhances operational reliability and minimizes downtimes. The automation package includes advanced automation systems that provide real-time monitoring and control, reducing human error and ensuring consistent product quality.
The upgraded Concast billet caster is scheduled to go into operation by the end of 2025, thus building on the successful commissioning of the plant’s original setup in 2017.
