How does laser engraving make watchmaking more efficient?

The watch industry is synonymous with precision, tradition and craftsmanship. At the same time, the market demands efficiency, customisation and quality. Trotec Laser demonstrates how modern laser technology, particularly the SpeedMarker series, can fulfil these requirements while upholding the values of traditional watchmaking.

Thanks to its adjustable pulse length (1.5 to 350 ns) and pulse frequency (1.6 to 1,000 kHz), as well as its positioning and repetition accuracy of ±0.010 mm, the material structure remains intact, even with sensitive metals such as stainless steel (316 L and 904 L), titanium, gold, and brass. This is a decisive advantage for high-quality watch components.

A concrete example: A traditional watch manufacturer uses the SpeedMarker 700 with a camera solution (TTL: Through-The-Lens) to engrave part designations, serial numbers and logos on watch cases and backs made of various materials, such as polished and/or brushed stainless steel, in a fraction of the time it would take using mechanical or chemical engraving methods, with absolute reproducibility.

Thanks to the intuitive SpeedMark® software, engravings can be realised efficiently, even with changing designs or small batches. This allows watch manufacturers to combine their craftsmanship with digital precision.

Thanks to its compact design and modular expandability, integration into existing manufacturing processes is easy. This allows for manual control while increasing productivity.

"Laser engraving is not contradictory to the art of watchmaking; it is its logical evolution. Our customers combine centuries-old expertise with cutting-edge technology."

– Martin Brönnimann, Key Account Manager, Trotec Laser Solutions
