Always our philosophy and now certified: signotec is carbon neutral

signotec is carbon neutral!

This means that all emissions caused by the company are recorded and compensated via recognised climate protection projects. This year, signotec is using its compensation to support the "Hydropower" project in Africa’s oldest national park, the Virunga National Park, in the Dominican Republic of Congo.

Since its foundation in 2000, signotec’s products have embodied the topic of sustainability through digitalisation and resource savings. As a company, signotec also focuses all of its areas on sustainable processes by developing and promoting efficient solutions. With its own products, signotec passes on this way of thinking and innovative strength to its customers. This includes not only the numerous application possibilities and savings potentials, but also the maintenance-free and durable hardware design of the signature pads. A service life of well over ten years and several million signatures is not unusual. In the event of electronic defects, signotec can also carry out targeted repairs on devices in order to preserve functioning components in the long term.

On average every EU citizen produces more than eight tonnes of CO2 per year. In order to limit global warming to significantly less than two degrees, this should only be a maximum of one tonne. Companies can make a particularly large contribution to reducing emissions overall. As a globally active manufacturer, we are aware of this responsibility and strive to develop our processes and products in a durable and sustainable manner. Our approach: What cannot be avoided through optimisation is compensated – with the goal of having to compensate less each year.

To further strengthen this corporate concept, we are very pleased that signotec has now also been officially certified as a "carbon neutral company" by ClimatePartner since March 2022. This means that all CO2 emissions of signotec have been calculated and compensated by supporting internationally recognised climate protection projects. We are aligning these measures with the achievement of the United Nations‘ "Sustainable Development Goals" (SDGs). These include numerous factors for combating global warming as well as reducing poverty and improving living conditions in emerging and developing countries.

Climate neutrality takes place in four steps

  1. Calculate emissions
Calculation of the "Corporate Carbon Footprint" (CCF), considering emission sources such as energy and heating, but also business travel, office supplies and all the emissions we cause as a company.
  2. Avoid and reduce emissions
The CCF shows in which areas CO2 can be further reduced. For example, by promoting flexible working hours, home office arrangements, optimising the meeting culture through digital meetings and converting the vehicle fleet to e-mobility.
  3. Compensate for emissions
However, there are always emissions that cannot be avoided at present. We consistently compensate for these by supporting a climate protection project from the ClimatePartner portfolio.
  4. Transparency
Calculations and measures must be transparent so that the benefits can also be understood in the long term. The ClimatePartner label with our ID number "17938-2203-1001" makes it possible to see how and where the CO2 compensation has taken place.

Our climate protection project

This year, we are using our compensation to support the "hydropower" project in Africa’s oldest national park, the Virunga National Park, in the Dominican Republic of Congo.

Since energy is generated from water without fossil fuels, it is considered emission-free. The expansion of renewable energy production is essential to halt global warming and secure energy supplies in the long term. The amount of emissions saved in a hydropower project is calculated using the so-called baseline method: How much CO2 would the same amount of energy cause with the usual electricity mix in the region? Through the supported project, we contribute to offset about 46,000 tonnes of CO2 annually. Here you can see all the details about the project at a glance.

signotec is proud to have achieved the set goal of climate neutrality and thus to be able to make a further contribution to environmental protection. Under this link you will find more information about sustainability at signotec.
