Instant recovery of recording and broadcast systems.

Fast system recovery of portable live streaming solutions is eminently important to reduce interruptions in transmission or playback to a minimum. Applications include online broadcasts, at television stations, large live conferences and music concerts. The systems that are normally used are very susceptible to operating system crashes. In these cases, the technicians responsible for the streaming services have to rush to get the systems back up and online. However, manufacturers of live streaming solutions do not want to have a service technician present on site at all times just to be able to respond immediately in the event of a system crash.

Innodisk partnered with a manufacturer of such recording and broadcast systems to develop a live streaming system for non-stationary applications that can be restored by any employee with a single keystroke. The solution can also operate automatically when no one is on site.

The development challenges here were to restore the system with a single click and, in some use cases, to restore it automatically. In this case, the function of the solution must be restored in the shortest possible time. A portable solution is exposed to extreme weather conditions and sometimes extreme outdoor temperatures all year round.

Innodisk’s solution performs a one-click or automatic recovery. InnoOSR uses patented recovery technology at the firmware level. The SSDs used, in 2.5" SSD/ M.2 2280/ M.2 2242 form factors with capacities from 64GB to 2TB, have a sequential R/W (MB/sec, max.) of 560/340. No Internet connection is required. System implementation is straightforward. This recovery capability helps mitigate operating system crashes and results in fewer interruptions to transfers. In addition to the recovery benefits InnoOSR provides, the InnoOSR industrial design also allows the recording and transfer system to process data at high speeds without regard to environmental conditions. The system can be used in the extended temperature range from -40°C to +85°C.
