New DDR5 5600 series from Innodisk for industrial applications

The rapidly evolving AIoT industry depends on data as its driving force. With the surge in demand for AI industrial applications, the need for high-performing memory becomes increasingly critical. Consequently, upgrading from DDR4 to DDR5 becomes imperative to unlock the full potential of AI’s transformative capabilities. Innodisk has taken the next step to redefine the data transfer market with its industrial-grade DR5600 series. Using the latest IC manufacturing process, the module offers a 16% increase in bandwidth and a 48GB capacity that ensures higher quality and efficiency for AIoT systems and data analysis.

The rise of the 5th generation of DRAM modules, DDR5, has brought forth several substantial advancements in memory module technology offering vital advantages that significantly impact memory performance and efficiency.

Notably, the most substantial improvement in DDR5 lies in its increased capacity and bandwidth, enabling the new generation of memory modules to handle larger data volumes at higher speeds, resulting in enhanced memory access and data processing capabilities. Innodisk DDR5 5600 series takes the technology one step forward, featuring a maximum module capacity of 48GB, representing a 16GB increase compared to its predecessor, the DDR5 4800 — additionally, the maximum IC capacity is 24GB (compared to DDR5 4800’s 16GB). The DDR5 5600 series also stands out in data transfer speed, reaching 5600MT/S, notably higher than the DDR5 4800 series‘ 4800MT/S. This improvement will reduce memory access latency and enhance productivity across various computing workloads.

DDR5 features a built-in Power Management IC (PMIC) to JEDEC standard at 1.1V, regulating power for improved signal integrity for each component within the module, encompassing the DRAM, register, and SPD hub. The lower voltage reduces power consumption per module, benefiting large-scale deployments. DDR5’s advanced power management enables a "deep sleep" state during idle periods, further conserving power and reducing heat generation.

Incorporating onboard PMIC and SPD design into the DDR5 module has enhanced power management capabilities, resulting in increased complexity. To ensure the stability and compatibility of their DDR5 products, Innodisk has undertaken comprehensive cross-validations for each essential component.

Another difference between DDR4 and DDR5 is the on-die ECC function within the DRAM IC itself to prevent data reliability concerns. However, the On-die ECC function inside of the IC should not be confused with the ECC function of ECC DIMM or RDIMM modules, which prevents bit errors from occurring between the memory module and CPU by using an additional IC on the DRAM module. Innodisk DDR5 5600 series are also available as ECC UDIMM and ECC SODIMM form factor.

In conclusion, adopting DDR5 technology is a strategic move in the era of Industry 4.0 and the Intelligent Edge. As Edge deployments evolve, the need for high-performing memory and storage solutions becomes increasingly critical for processing data at its source. In many scenarios, the latency and cost associated with cloud data center processing are not feasible.

The Innodisk DDR5 5600 series showcases noteworthy improvements in capacity, speed, and reliability. Additionally, manufactured using the highest quality components, the DDR5 5600 series has an operating temperature range from 0 °C to +95 °C and resistors protected against sulfur contamination, assuring the requirements for industrial-grade memory performance and extended life spans in demanding environments. DDR5 5600 is available in UDIMM and SODIMM form factor.
