Presentation of new versions of the Curb Charger from 23 to 25 June 2026 at the Power2Drive Europe trade fair in Munich

As an alternative to conventional charging pillars, the cast-iron model offers a particularly robust, space-saving charging solution alongside the standard version with a concrete curb. The familiar material appearance, similar to that of a manhole cover, ensures durable, familiar and reliable quality. The cast-iron Curb Charger is also available with a concrete-grey finish. The additional new flush-mounted charging solution is specifically designed for modern logistics sites with vehicles in daily use and long idle periods. This 22-kW charging solution for delivery vans, short distance lorries and other fleet vehicles can be driven over, requires no bollards, allows for safe manoeuvring and features a replaceable electronic module for quick maintenance.

This enlarges the range of applications for the Curb Charger. In addition to curbside charging, its various models can be used for many different purposes. These include workplace charging, outdoor parking spaces at single-family homes or apartment buildings, as well as business and fleet car parks. Thanks to its range of features, the system provides users with simple, fast, and convenient charging.

The Curb Chargers have already been successfully installed in many German cities, including Cologne, Neuss, Düsseldorf and Dortmund, and are currently being installed in others. There is considerable interest from communities, as well as from operators of commercial and staff car parks, and from other European and international countries.

All versions of the Curb Charger blend almost invisibly into the streetscape, offering solutions to the challenges posed by existing charging systems. These challenges include high space requirements, low charging point density, a negative impact on the cityscape, and high costs. Unlike other solutions on the market, the Curb Charger, developed by Rheinmetall´ssubsidiary Pierburg, focuses on upgrading and making intelligent use of existing infrastructure. By integrating charging electronics into existing infrastructure, the Curb Charger literally becomes a ‘charging pillar’ without the associated restrictions for other road users.

The Curb Charger has been designed for quick and easy installation, servicing and maintenance. The CurbSwap feature allows the built-in electrical module, which has a charging capacity of up to 22 kW, to be fully removed and replaced with an exchange module. A quick coupling reconnects the module to the low-voltage grid in a very short time. The use of dummy curbs across larger areas during civil works and electrical installations results in significant cost savings. The easy replacement of the units guarantees minimal downtime per charging point in the event of maintenance.

A carefully engineered cooling system ensures reliable operation even at high outside temperatures and prevents overheating. In addition to targeted heat exchange, an integrated temperature monitoring system optimises charging performance. In sub-zero temperatures, a built-in heating system guarantees visibility and the reliable, snow- and ice-free operation of the charger. Thanks to the encapsulated electronic components (IP68) and the sealed charging socket with integrated water drains, charging remains reliable even during rain. If water accumulates in the street and impedes safe charging, a water level sensor interrupts the charging process before the residual current device is activated. The integrated surge protection and permanent contactor welding and PE monitoring provide additional safety for people, electric vehicles and connected systems in the event of electrical faults.

The Curb Charger’s standardised interfaces, integrated 4G modem and Ethernet ensure high-performance communication. Data is exchanged between the charger and backend systems via the certified OCCP 1.6 communication standard. This provides real-time information on charging sessions, customer reservations and charging point status, as well as the option of over-the-air software updates. This ensures the Curb Charger is always up to date with the latest technological developments.
