Elegant technology for demanding construction site logistics
With the new MBH Bank headquarters, Budapest is set to gain a modern building complex that will bring together under one roof numerous employees who were previously spread across various locations in the Hungarian capital. The project, which is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027, comprises three high-rise towers and is one of the most ambitious building projects in the region. Among other things, the company Profirent – a long-standing and reliable rental firm and authorised service partner of GEDA – was entrusted with managing the site logistics. On behalf of the main contractor, the task involved installing and operating construction hoist within the lift shafts of all three building sections.
A well-thought-out design for maximum flexibility
A particular challenge arose from the façade design of the new building. The building envelope had to be fully enclosed within a very short timeframe in order to ensure the necessary weather resistance and thermal insulation at an early stage. Conventional construction hoists mounted on the outside of the façade would have significantly hampered this process and were therefore out of the question. At the same time, site logistics had to be maintained without restriction throughout almost the entire construction phase. The safe and efficient transport of materials, equipment and personnel had to be ensured even after the façade had been completely enclosed.
The optimal solution was therefore to integrate the construction hoists directly into the buildings’ future lift shafts.
Profirent, which has the largest fleet of GEDA hoists available for hire in Hungary and is able to provide hire solutions and services ranging from small transport platforms with a load capacity of 300 kg to heavy-duty mast-climbing and material hoists with a load capacity of 2,000 kg, rose to this challenge with great dedication.
A combination of the GEDA Multilift P12 and GEDA 1500 Z/ZP models was chosen as the overall concept for vertical logistics on this project.
Six GEDA Multilift P12s in shaft operation
A total of six GEDA Multilift P12 lifts, with lifting heights of 62, 73 and 89 metres respectively, are being used. The hoists were installed in pairs in the shafts of the three building sections, so that two hoists are available in each shaft to ensure the smooth running of the construction site. For this project, the particularly compact A cabin variant was chosen, as it allows for optimal use of the available shaft space.
Three of the six hoists were also built as so-called ‘reversed versions’. In this special design, the entry and exit sides of the cabin were swapped. This allowed two hoists to be arranged side by side within a single lift shaft. This customised design enabled maximum utilisation of the available space and ensured the required transport capacity on the construction site.
Today, GEDA offers the GEDA SHAFT LIFT, a solution that has been specifically developed and further optimised for such applications. However, this system was not yet available at the time of project planning and installation.
Additional transport capacity for the construction phase
In addition to the passenger and material hoists, a total of five GEDA 1500 Z/ZP transport platforms were installed. Three of these units are provided by Profirent, whilst the other two are from the contracting builder’s own stock.
The transport platforms are primarily used for temporary operations and specialised transport tasks, and provide the ideal complement to the logistics plan during the various construction phases.
The solution is complemented by a comprehensive security concept featuring GEDA floor-security doors, which ensure secure access to the individual levels.
By combining customised Multilift P12 systems with high-performance transport platforms, the project impressively demonstrates how modern GEDA hoist technology enables efficient, safe and cost effective construction site logistics, even under challenging conditions.
In the construction machinery sector and at global construction sites, GEDA has been renowned for offering unique quality and made-in-Germany expertise for over 90 years. The company has developed a comprehensive product range over the decades: From compact 60 kg wire rope lifts for workmen and versatile transport platforms to person and material hoists – the GEDA range could not be any broader. This is complemented by building maintenance unit and industrial elevator product ranges for permanent use in power stations and cement works, offshore plants, etc.
