Solutions for the tightest of spaces
In a current refurbishment project, two GEDA 300 Z Boiler Hoists are serving as the central hoisting solutions, ensuring safe and efficient material transport.
These are supplemented by a GEDA 1500 Z/ZP transport platform and two GEDA MAXI 150 S rope hoists. The logistics concept developed by TIG enables around 210 tonnes of scaffolding material to be transported through confined access points into a boiler measuring approximately 20 metres wide, 20 metres long and 67 metres high.
GEDA 300 Z Boiler Hoist: Specialised for confined access points
When carrying out repair and maintenance work on silos, blast furnaces, combined heat and power plants or boilers, every centimetre often counts. Access to the work area is frequently only possible via a so-called manhole with a diameter of around 45 centimetres. The GEDA 300 Z Boiler Hoist was developed precisely for such applications.
This material hoist can be completely dismantled into its individual parts, allowing it to be fed into the interior of the plant even through particularly small openings. Two people require only around 40 minutes for assembly or dismantling. Plug connections on all connecting cables further simplify and speed up the set-up process. The platform may be accessed for loading and unloading. The hoist is not intended for carrying people during normal operation; people may only ride on it whilst the equipment is being assembled or dismantled.
A replaceable wear rack helps to ensure a long service life and protects the gearbox. Standard safety features include, amongst other things, a safety catch, a safety stop with an audible warning, and overload protection. For the current project, the Boiler Hoists were fitted with an access solution tailored to the conditions on site.
In the current refurbishment project, the two GEDA 300 Z Boiler Hoists are responsible for the vertical transport of scaffolding materials to the respective assembly points inside the boiler. Scaffolding materials weighing up to 280 kilograms, which have been pre-packaged, are loaded onto the platform of the Boiler Hoist and then transported directly to the relevant locations. In this way, they enable materials to be transported directly inside the plant and form a central part of the logistics concept.
A well-thought-out logistics concept saves time
The required scaffolding materials are assembled into packages weighing up to 280 kilograms whilst still in the warehouse. On site, the GEDA 1500 Z/ZP transports the prepared packages up to the level of the boiler access point.
From there, they are moved into the boiler using site-provided trolleys and handed over to the other hoisting solutions. The two GEDA MAXI 150 S units during internal material distribution. Two GEDA 300 Z Boiler Hoists then take over the vertical transport to the respective assembly points within the boiler.
Thanks to the precisely coordinated conveyor chain, the scaffolding work can be carried out by a maximum of 14 fitters working in two shifts. In the process, around 210 tonnes of scaffolding material are transported into a boiler approximately 20 metres wide, 20 metres long and 67 metres high. The two GEDA MAXI 150 S units assist with transhipment and internal material distribution, before the two GEDA 300 Z Boiler Hoists take over the vertical transport to the respective assembly points. According to the project managers, the assembly time was reduced by around a third compared with conventional procedures.
GEDA 1500 Z/ZP: versatile for people and materials
The GEDA 1500 Z/ZP twin-mast goods hoist is fitted with two separate control systems and can be used both as a dedicated goods hoist and as a platform hoist for people and materials.
For the transport of people and materials, the platform hoist control system is activated at a speed of 12 metres per minute. If only building materials are to be transported, the unit can be switched to material hoist mode with a lifting speed of 24 metres per minute. Thanks to the modular system, which offers 14 different platform variants and a range of load capacities, the GEDA 1500 Z/ZP can be flexibly adapted to the specific requirements of any construction site. Generously sized load platforms provide ample space for heavy and bulky building materials. The tried-and-tested twin-mast system ensures stable and smooth operation even with load capacities of up to 2,000 kilograms. A ‘Comfort’ platform variant suitable for scaffolding transport is being used in this renovation project.
GEDA MAXI 150 S: a compact aid for materials handling
The rope hoists in the GEDA Mini/Maxi series are particularly well suited to the efficient and safe transport of scaffolding components and building materials. Two lifting speeds, straightforward assembly and comprehensive safety features make the GEDA MAXI 150 S a versatile aid on building sites and in industrial facilities. The handy rope drum drive is attached to the lower section of the scaffolding and does not need to be transported up to the relevant working height. Only the lightweight swivel arm is mounted at the top of the scaffolding. This allows the rope hoist to be moved quickly and easily during different stages of construction. A wide range of accessories and load-handling attachments expands its range of applications. Whether scaffolding components, wheelbarrows, buckets or other building materials: the compact GEDA rope hoists enable effortless and efficient material transport at the touch of a button.
Five units, one efficient conveyor chain
The interplay between the five GEDA hoists demonstrates how efficient materials handling can be achieved even in extremely confined spaces. The two GEDA 300 Z Boiler Hoists form the central component for vertical material transport inside the boiler. The GEDA 1500 Z/ZP and the two GEDA MAXI 150 S units complement this transport process and ensure that the material reaches the Boiler Hoists efficiently.
Through a combination of early bundling, horizontal transport and several coordinated vertical conveying solutions, the extensive scaffolding material reaches its destination safely and in a time saving manner.
In the construction machinery sector and at global construction sites, GEDA has been renowned for offering unique quality and made-in-Germany expertise for over 90 years. The company has developed a comprehensive product range over the decades: From compact 60 kg wire rope lifts for workmen and versatile transport platforms to person and material hoists – the GEDA range could not be any broader.
