Am 13. Juli 2023 wurde in Augsburg die Rudolf-Diesel-Medaille, der älteste und renommierteste Innovationspreis, für die „erfolgreichste Innovationsleistung“ an Prof. Dr. August-Wilhelm Scheer verliehen. Er wurde als Vordenker und unternehmerischer Umsetzer moderner Architekturen für Informationssysteme ausgezeichnet. Die Rudolf-Diesel-Medaille wird seit 1953 im Gedenken an den Innovator Rudolf Diesel, Erfinder des Diesel Motors, verliehen. Mit der Rudolf-Diesel-Medaille werden Personen für besondere Leistungen auf dem Gebiet des Erfindungswesens und der Innovationskultur geehrt. Prof. Dr. August-Wilhelm Scheer erhielt am 10. Mai 2023 die Ehrendoktorwürde der Widener University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dies ist seine dritte Ehrenpromotion. Ausgezeichnet wurde er als Vordenker moderner Architekturen für Informationssysteme und Innovationstreiber für flexible und resiliente Geschäftsmodelle. Die Verleihung fand statt im Rahmen der Diplomfeier für die Widener Absolventen des Jahres. Zugleich war Prof. Scheer gebeten, als Hauptredner der Abschlussfeier (commencement speech) zu den jungen Akademikern zu sprechen.
