Near-infrared sensors: Ministry of Economics funds pilot line of Senorics with two million Euro

Senorics, a company from Dresden, has received a funding confirmation of over 2 million Euro from the Sächsische Aufbaubank – Förderbank. The funding is part of the key technology program “KETs – pilot lines”. Senorics develops novel photonic sensors for material analysis. The technology detects the contents of liquids and solids, e.g. the sugar content in fruits or the moisture level in paper. The compact size of the sensors enables integration in everyday products and builds the foundation for analyses that, so far, were only possible within laboratories using big, expensive and very sensitive spectrometers. With the support of the Saxon Ministry of Economics the company can promote the industrialization of its technology and build a pilot facility to produce the sensors in Dresden.

Saxon Minister of Economics Martin Dulig: “Senorics is an excellent example of the innovative strength of Saxony. I am proud that today we are supporting another spinoff of the University of Technology Dresden on their way to industrial production. With this funding, a pilot phase of our technology funding efforts is ending. 4 years ago, we funded the first project through the new policy of the KET’s- pilot lines program. Since then we have supported Saxon companies with nearly 50 million Euro to build their respective pilot facilities for key-technologies.

Senorics founder and CEO Ronny Timmreck added: “The next crucial step in making our NIR sensors ready for the mass market is the construction of a pilot line. Thus, the funding through the KET’s – pilot line program is an important component. Furthermore, this decision is a strong signal to the organic electronics of Dresden, underlining the potential of this industry. We are immensely grateful for the support and the given trust of the Saxon Ministry of Economics and the collaboration with the Sächsische Aufbaubank. The success story of organic electronics in Saxony is unique and is a manifestation of the great possibilities when combining research, economy, politics and public institutions.
About Senorics

About the KETs – pilot line funding

Especially for small and medium sized companies, the development and introduction of technologies, products and innovative business models on the market is associated with high financial and entrepreneurial risks. High investment costs are necessary, as well as remaining research and optimization work in the production process or on the product. The market expectations are still uncertain.

With its unique program throughout Germany, the pilot line funding of key technologies from the Free State of Saxony particularly supports small and medium sized companies in converting technological innovations into economically viable ventures. Microelectronics, information and communication technologies, nanotechnologies, new materials, advanced production technologies, photonics and biotechnologies are all considered fundable key technologies.

The Saxon technology funding program is financed by the Free State of Saxony and the European Union. The funding is provided by the Sächsische Aufbaubank – Förderbank (SAB).

Über die Senorics GmbH

Senorics is a high-tech company from Dresden, using its technology to make nearinfrared spectroscopy mass market ready. With the help of novel sensors, contents of liquids and solids, e.g. food, agricultural products, synthetics, textiles and pharmaceuticals, can be analysed and quantified with minimal effort. The sensors are very small, low-cost, extremely powerful and robust against external influences like vibration. Thus, the technology is ideally suited for content analysis and quantification in appliances that are benefiting the end user e.g. home appliances and mobile electronics.
When using this type of spectroscopy, a sample is irradiated by near-infrared light. Using the algorithms developed by Senorics, the content of the sample can be identified out of the wavelengths of the reflected light.
The company, founded in 2017, is a spin-off of the University of Technology Dresden. Today the business employs 40 people.
