The life cycle of a mine, which is interesting for investors

Different steps in the life cycle of a mine can take years and they contain different levels of investment risk.

Junior mining companies often need a lot of time until the first production, therefore some imponderables can still complicate the development. On the other hand, they can also be a good investment. In the life of a mine there are basically five main phases, namely prospecting and exploration, evaluation and permitting, construction, production, closure and reclamation. The first phase today uses high-tech methods to search for mineral deposits. This takes one to two years. Exploration uses additional techniques, such as drilling, to try to determine the size and value of the discovered deposit. This takes about three to 14 years. In the second phase, evaluation and approval, technical studies are usually carried out to determine costs and whether the deposit is sufficiently valuable (duration 2 to 3 years).

Then comes the construction of the mine, which may include infrastructure as well as accommodation and mining processing facilities. Then the mine starts production – ore processing, mineral extraction, smelting – in open pit or underground mining, and the production phase can sometimes last for decades. When the mine is exhausted, the mine is closed, facilities are dismantled and the land is returned to its original state, i.e. recultivated.

When an investor looks at a company and its project, the stage at which properties are located can be relevant to the investment decision.

Endeavour Silver https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNOGnYNBp6w -, for example, owns three producing silver-gold mines in Mexico. One of them is being shut down. In addition, the company is currently acquiring a gold project and pursuing other projects in Chile and Mexico. In the second quarter of 2021, it produced more than one million ounces of silver and over 11,100 ounces of gold.

Tier One Silverhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PgUnb_qCDas&t=2323s – has five exploration projects in Peru, including the prospective Curibaya project, which is returning very good assay results. Exploration efforts will be expanded through additional programs.
