Autonomous driving is making progress – and needs raw materials

The mobility market could be facing a major upheaval. This is because robotaxis are becoming increasingly popular in the USA.

Infrastructure and sensor technology will increasingly consume raw materials. Autonomous driving has now overcome a significant hurdle. Commercialization is picking up speed. Cab fleets in particular will increasingly be driverless. Two companies in the USA, which already have delivery robots and robo-trucks in use, are focusing on robotaxis. Around 700 cabs are already operating autonomously in Los Angeles, Phoenix and San Francisco. Austin, Atlanta and Miami are to be added next year, and test operations are to start in other cities. Many robot cabs are already in operation in China. The technology now seems to have outgrown its infancy, and some are already talking about a megatrend.

Sophisticated sensors, cameras, artificial intelligence and ever-improving computing power are making it possible to develop and react to complex traffic situations. US President Donald Trump has now also relaxed regulations regarding autonomous driving. According to forecasts by The Business Research Company, the global market for autonomous driving will quadruple to around 285 billion US dollars by 2029. There are also plans to develop autonomous cars that private vehicle buyers can then purchase. Work is also underway on the commercial operation of fully autonomous trucks in heavy goods traffic. Electric vehicles are ideally suited for autonomous driving. This is because they offer more precise control and integration of the necessary systems and sensors. If you want to focus on cleaner and safer driving, you should look at companies that have the necessary raw materials in their projects.
