The trade dispute between the US and China is entering a new round. The US president has just threatened China with tariffs of 100 percent. According to Beijing, rare earths can only be exported with approval. Exports for military purposes are completely prohibited. China is the world’s leading producer of rare earths. These are used in the defense sector and in the high-tech industry, for example in semiconductors and smartphones. Customs disputes could lead to supply problems not only for rare earths, but also for other raw materials. In addition to rare earths, there are other critical raw materials.

These include antimony, for example, a critical raw material that is rarer than many rare earths. In the defense industry, which has taken on new significance today, antimony is used as a component in ammunition and flame retardants. The raw material increases the penetrating power of ammunition. Electrical ignition systems also benefit from the addition of antimony. China also keeps a close eye on antimony exports and relies on export controls, which has also had an impact on prices. From 2020 to 2023, the US covered about 23 percent of its antimony needs from China.

However, there are two mining companies that have this sought-after raw material in their projects, in addition to gold. It is clear that gold has become significantly more valuable due to its enormous price increases. It’s nice when another sought-after raw material such as antimony is added to the mix.

Southern Cross Gold Consolidated https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/southern-cross-gold-consolidated-ltd/ – owns the Sunday Creek project in Australia. It contains gold and antimony. Excellent drilling results are already available.

GoldMining https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/goldmining-inc/ – has large gold and copper projects in North and South America. The 100 percent company-owned Crucero project in Peru has significant antimony mineralization in addition to gold.
