Faster to high-quality electrolysis data: Forschungszentrum Jülich relies on high throughput systems and support from hte

High-quality, reproducible data is key for evaluating and advancing electrolysis technologies faster. With two 16-fold high throughput electrolysis units, Forschungszentrum Jülich is expanding its capabilities in electrocatalysis research: a high-pressure PEM electrolysis unit and a unit for alkaline water and CO2 electrolysis. The systems, developed and built by hte, are based on hte’s proprietary high throughput technology platform. Commissioned jointly with Forschungszentrum Jülich, they enable the parallel, reproducible, and significantly accelerated evaluation of electrolysis technologies under industrially relevant conditions.

The energy transition requires efficient and scalable electrolysis processes. Forschungszentrum Jülich has long-standing expertise in electrochemical energy conversion, power-to-X technologies and the development of scalable electrolysis processes. The new high throughput units complement this research strength precisely where it matters: parallelisation, precise analytics and digitalised workflows shorten development cycles considerably and generate reproducible data of high quality. These are exactly the benefits the new units now bring to day-to-day research in Jülich. The new systems build on the long-standing collaboration between Forschungszentrum Jülich and hte, which has already been highlighted by both partners in a previous joint press release.

During commissioning, hte provided technical support and application expertise and worked closely with the teams in Jülich. First results from ongoing research operations show that the units are realizing their full potential: significantly higher sample throughput, reproducible test execution and consistent data quality – supported by hte’s integrated software and digitalised R&D workflow.

“With hte at our side, we were able to commission the systems quickly and our research moved forward accordingly. Running experiments in parallel, with high-quality data we can rely on, is exactly what our electrolysis research needed. The partnership and the responsiveness of the hte team convinced us, and we are very happy with the results.“

says Prof. Rüdiger Eichel of Forschungszentrum Jülich.

“Our customers are not simply investing in a test system. They are investing in the ability to generate high-quality data quickly. That is why our job does not end when the unit is delivered. We stay with a project from installation through method development to routine operation. Jülich shows what happens when high throughput systems, application expertise and reliable support deliver speed, quality and predictability in the electrolysis workflow.“

explains Denis Hürtgen, CTO and Managing Director of hte
