The price of silver is finally rising
Silver has risen in price over the past two weeks. The precious metal may soon reach new highs.
It has been on the cards for some time and now the silver price has broken through the 35 US dollar mark. This is making many people prick up their ears. Experts are already talking about possible mini-squeeze events for the silver price in the future. As with gold, there was an imbalance in the price of silver between the major trading centers of London and New York. This has driven the price increase. There has also been increased speculative activity. There have been strong inflows into the world’s largest silver ETF, the iShares Silver Trust. This ETF is backed by physical silver. Futures triggered the price outbreak. There has been a structural deficit for around five years. This has caused stocks to shrink. The last time the silver price surpassed an important level, the price recovery continued. Further ETF inflows are now possible. The largest silver vaults in London therefore only have a few remaining stocks, while there is an oversupply in New York.
There is still uncertainty in the world as to how the tariffs will continue. A suspected downturn in the global economy and a decline in demand for raw materials has not yet materialized. There are various possibilities as to how the silver price will develop in the near future. If the imbalance persists, any demand for physical silver from London will affect the price and increase illiquidity. The result could be a mini-squeeze. Another possibility is that London physical silver prices rise relative to US futures. A shift of inventories back to London would then probably be necessary to prevent a squeeze. However, many silver experts are betting on prices continuing to rise. This is a plus for companies such as Vizsla Silver or MAG Silver.
