AI-based and robot-assisted peach picking
At the Agrophoenix fruit processing plant in Greece, eight Stäubli SCARA robots do the opposite of cherry-picking: They pick peaches and select not the good ones, but the bad ones. The robots are part of the AI- and vision-based STAQ inspection system developed by Dutch startup QING. Eight parallel STAQ cells perform fruit grading at remarkable speed: During the season, they process 15 tons of peaches per hour (!), about 100,000 peaches, each cut in half. Automation in the meat industry: A new level
Until recently, labeling Serrano hams, which is a must because it determines their progression through different aging and drying processes, was a laborious task. Since a robot could not detect the bones in the ham, human involvement was indispensable. Now, a Spanish systems integrator has developed an AI-based robotic system capable of performing this task. The labels – up to 900 per hour – are injected by a Stäubli SCARA robot designed for hygiene-sensitive applications in the food industry.
