Im Auftrag des Silver Instituts hat Precious Metals Insight untersucht, inwieweit der Silberpreis und die sogenannten oberirdischen Vorräte (Münzen, Barren, Silberwaren und Schmuck) miteinander in Verbindung stehen. Die Untersuchung ergab, dass für den Silbermarkt die oberirdischen Vorräte im Wesentlichen nicht verfügbar sind, sie also auch nicht mit dem Silberpreis korreliert sind.
