Now there are efforts to retrieve these metals from the seabed of the deep sea, perhaps as early as next year. But there are still some obstacles. Dredging the seabed could cause problems, as could the enormous noise pollution associated with extraction. Noise disturbs marine mammals and whales in terms of orientation and communication.
