Insekten als Lebensmittel – Allergien beim Verzehr?
Mit der ersten Zulassung eines Insekts als neuartiges Lebensmittel gewinnen essbare Insekten auf dem deutschen Lebensmittelmarkt immer mehr an Bedeutung: Anfang Mai veröffentlichte das Bundesamt für Verbraucherschutz und Lebensmittelsicherheit (BVL), dass der gelbe Mehlwurm als erstes Insekt innerhalb der EU zugelassen wurde. Insekten, für die diese Zulassung beantragt wird, sind in der Regel einfach zu züchten, haben einen kurzen Lebenszyklus, brauchen wenig Platz und gelten als wertvolle Nahrungsquelle, da sie oft hohe Proteingehalte (inklusive aller essenziellen Aminosäuren) aufweisen. Außerdem benötigen sie weniger Futter als z.B. Rinder für dieselbe Menge an Protein, lassen sich also als klimafreundlich vermarkten.
