Without fertilizer, crop yields cannot be increased, and this is necessary because more and more countries are turning to intensive agriculture. A sufficient supply of potassium is essential, especially for staple foods such as wheat, corn, and rice, on which millions of people depend. Vegetables and fruit also require special care and need fertilizer. More food must be produced, and it must be of high quality. Products are also expected to become more environmentally friendly, and there is a growing shift towards organic farming. This is increasing the acceptance of fertilizers.
The potash fertilizer industry was worth a good US$31 billion in 2024. By 2032, the market is expected to be worth an estimated US$42 billion. The world’s population is growing and eating habits are changing. Potash fertilizers improve the soil and increase its nutrient content. The potash market is therefore on a robust growth path, which should be particularly welcome news for potash companies.
Potassium plays an important role in the muscles and organs of the human body. Potash fertilizers are not harmful to health, whereas other fertilizers can have negative effects on humans. The pandemic and the war between Russia and Ukraine have had an impact on the potash market. Russia is the world’s largest fertilizer exporter. However, there are also promising potash deposits elsewhere. One example is the Banio project in Gabon, West Africa.
Millennial Potash – https://www.commodity-tv.com/ondemand/companies/profil/millennial-potash-corp/ – owns Banio, a potash project located in a politically stable and mining-friendly country. The government and the Ministry of Mining support the project. As it is only 60 kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean, low-cost exports to major potash consumers such as Brazil are possible. This gives the company a transportation cost advantage over its competitors.
