Higher wear resistance and longer tool life in hard turning applications up to 58 HRC with Kennametal’s KYHK15B™ grade

Kennametal has introduced its latest ceramic turning grade, KYHK15B™, designed to deliver increased productivity and lower cost per edge in hard turning operations. The new grade provides greater depth of cut capabilities than PcBN inserts when machining hardened steel, hightemperature alloys, and cast iron, as well as maximum tool life and wear resistance for the most demanding turning applications. "KYHK15B provides excellent edge stability, high chipping resistance, and a PVD gold coating makes wear progression identification very easy. From smooth and varying depths of cut to heavy depths of cut, KYHK15B can be an economic alternative to PcBN inserts," says Robert Keilmann, Product Manager, Kennametal. KYHK15B builds on an existing…

Cut longer with Kennametal’s KCK20B™ and KCKP10™ indexable milling grades

Kennametal has introduced the KCK20B and KCKP10 indexable milling grades for higher wear resistance and up to 30% longer tool life when machining cast iron and compacted graphite iron components. Both grades offer higher productivity and consistent, repeatable performance during roughing, semi-finishing, and finishing operations. “The new grades feature High-Power Impulse Magnetron Sputtering (High-PIMS) technology that provides a smoother insert surface and optimal layer adhesion for less flank wear – one of the leading causes of insert failure,” says Gil Getz, Product Manager, Kennametal. He notes that the new coating technology also increases cutting edge strength. “The result is high-performance milling in a broad range of cast iron alloys, including…

Kennametal Introduces HiPACS for Aerospace Fastener Hole Drilling and Countersinking in One Step

Kennametal has introduced the HiPACS drilling and countersinking system for aerospace fastener holes. Designed to drill and chamfer holes in one operation, the high-precision tool meets the aerospace industry’s stringent accuracy requirements, while delivering increased tool life in machining composite, titanium and aluminum aircraft skins. “Most fastener hole tools used today are complex made-to-order tools with long lead-times,” says Georg Roth, Product Manager, Kennametal. “HiPACS uses standard, off-the-shelf components for quick delivery and low cost per hole, by allowing the drill and chamfer insert to be indexed independently from one another. What’s more, it’s the only indexable drilling and countersinking system on the market that can hold the aerospace industry’s…

Kennametal Introduces the FBX Drill for Faster Aerospace Machining

Kennametal has introduced the FBX drill for flat-bottom drilling of structural aerospace parts. The patented FBX drill delivers superior stability and up to 200 percent higher metal removal rates when machining high temperature alloys, stainless steel, and other materials. The new modular drill is the critical first step in a three-part tooling concept-including the HARVI™ Ultra 8X and the HARVI™ end mill series-specifically designed by Kennametal to decrease cycle time for these types of applications. Quickly removing large amounts of material remains a challenge for these types of components. Traditionally, the first process step is to enter the material by using ramping techniques. This is a time-consuming process and low…
