MBDA Italia and Rheinmetall Italia have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore possibilities for collaborating in the area of air defence including disruptive technologies and in the national and European defence funds domain. Major order from Switzerland: Rheinmetall supplying Swiss Army with new generation of Maske 76mm rapid smoke/obscurant cartridges
The Swiss procurement authority armasuisse has contracted with Rheinmetall to supply a new generation of the tried-and-tested, highly effective Maske 76 rapid smoke/obscurant cartridge, known in Switzerland as the “7,6cm Nebelpatrone 21 mit elektrischer Zündung”, or “7.6cm Smoke/Obscurant Cartridge with Electric Fuse”. The order is worth a figure in the mid-two-digit million-euro range. A pilot lot is due to undergo acceptance testing starting in November 2022. Delivery of the final lot is expected to take place in August 2027. Rheinmetall overcame rival bids to win this order. Rheinmetall ist von der schweizerischen Beschaffungsbehörde armasuisse mit der Lieferung einer neuen Generation der bewährten und hocheffektiven Schnellnebelgranate Maske 76 beauftragt worden. Der Wert dieses Auftrags über die im Kundenland als „7,6cm Nebelpatrone 21 mit elektrischer Zündung“ bezeichnete Munition liegt in einem mittleren zweistelligen MioEUR-Bereich. Ab November 2022 soll das Pilotlos abgenommen werden. Die Auslieferung des letzten Loses ist für August 2027 vorgesehen. Rheinmetall konnte sich in dem Beschaffungsverfahren gegen andere Anbieter durchsetzen. Der Auftrag bedeutet zudem, dass die Maske-Fertigung im Werk Neuenburg über die nächsten Jahre gut ausgelastet ist.
