Sustainable investment in precious metals

Gold and silver have always been regarded as stores of value and are safe havens, especially in politically uncertain times or when inflation is on the rise. Sustainability focuses on ethical and ecological responsibility. Mining is often associated with major environmental interventions or questionable working conditions, especially in developing countries. One sustainable approach is the recycling (urban mining) of precious metals. Around a third of the gold processed worldwide comes from recycling. A large proportion of silver is also recycled. The famous "Vienna Philharmonic" gold coin, for example, is made from recycled gold. And the world’s largest jewelry manufacturer has announced that it will only use recycled gold and silver for jewelry production from 2025. This would save almost 60,000 tons of CO2 every year and recycling would work without any loss of quality. Sustainability also involves long-term thinking and moving away from quick money. In addition to bars and coins, sustainable investments also include jewelry. This is not just an ornament, but has an emotional meaning combined with a material value. A prerequisite is the fineness (high gold content), timeless design and high-quality workmanship. Environmentally conscious buyers look for certificates (Fairmined, Responsible Jewellery Council) and recycled jewelry. Jewelry is usually reused and passed on or reworked. This means additional sustainability. So, the right gold jewelry can complement a portfolio. So can the stocks of mining companies that responsibly extract precious metals from the ground. These include Vizsla Silver and Endeavour Silver, for example.
